Himalayan Ecotourism services and hospitality

When you travel with Himalayan Ecotourism, you can expect quality service the moment you arrive at Delhi airport.

Our tour guides

Our guides are all experienced and trained in mountain sports.
Most of our guides and assistants are members of the cooperative promoted by Himalayan Ecotourism. They are not just daily wage employees, but are actual partners and shareholders of the social enterprise. Therefore, you will experience hospitality that you won't forget.

Besides guiding you in the Himalayas, they are in charge of setting up the camp and preparing healthy, hygienic, balanced meals cooked every day from fresh local ingredients.

Your bilingual guide will be with you in your vehicle while the rest of the team moves in a separate vehicle with the camping and trekking equipment.

For a group of 6 travellers, for instance, you will be travelling with your bilingual guide, a local guide cum cook, two assistants and two drivers.

Note that the co-founder of Himalayan Ecotourism is a Belgian who is fluent in Hindi, French and English. He has been living in India for more than 10 years.
In co-operation with the members of the cooperative, we developed a system of conducting tours which ensures comfortable travel despite the rigor of travelling in high-altitude mountain environment.

Equipment

We have excellent camping and trekking equipment imported from Europe. We outclass all our competitors in this matter.

Camping equipment for safari

For sleeping at night, we have tipi style tents in polycotton in which you can stand. Each couple have their personal tent. You will also enjoy very comfortable self-inflating mats, wide sleeping bags that protect you from night frost, inner cotton linens and even a small folding table for keeping your personal stuffs.

For the meals and the time spent in a group, a large tipi tent in polycotton with windows and that accommodate more than 10 people will be pitched up. A comfortable ground carpet, small camping chairs, lighting equipment and even a wood stove to warm you up and prepare tea.
A large additional tent is pitched up as kitchen and for the tour staff.

Equipment for the treks

We have 4 seasons tunnel tent with extra living space, self-inflating mat of 3.8 cm thickness, synthetic or down sleeping bags depending on the circumstances, cotton linen, walking poles.

Food

Our cooks are experienced and know how to prepare gourmet meals in all circumstances. As far as possible, we use fresh locally sourced products during safari and treks.
Nevertheless, from time to time, fresh food supply is not ensured on very large distances. We may use dehydrated food on the remotest parts of certain tours.

Our guarantee : Hygienic Indian cuisine , delicious, and adjusted to the European taste.

Note Although the dinner in town (Delhi, Manali, Leh, etc.) are generally not included in the price of the packages to give you the freedom of choosing your restaurant and your menu.

Transport

All transports are done in vehicles adapted to Himalayan terrain. Vehicles are comfortable, reliable, recent and well-maintained. The drivers are selected based on the quality of their driving (safety, comfort and skill) and their experience.

For the motorcycle safaris, we select the best suppliers. The bikes are recent Royal Enfield. A mechanic accompanies you to help you out if something goes wrong.

During all our tours, our staff and equipment move in a separate vehicle.

Accommodation

We do not select the most expensive hotels to avoid increasing the price of the circuits. However we are extremely strict in terms of cleanliness and hygiene which is often a problem in India. Comfortable bedding, air-conditioned rooms when required, quality cuisine and hospitality of the hotel managers are part of our selection criteria.

The same criteria are applied to the selection of the homestays. However, we obviously can not be as rigorous with homestays as we can be with traditional hotels.

We propose two categories of hotels :

Category A : In large cities like Delhi, Shimla or Manali. Very comfortable hotels with spacious air-conditioned rooms. However we avoid hotels with unnecessary luxury.

Category B : In smaller cities like Keylong, Leh or Reckong Peo. Comfortable hotels. Rooms are simple but clean, with attached bathroom and the minimum you can expect from a decent hotel. Family atmosphere.
